Welcome to LECPTA

What is LECPTA?

The Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA) is a community of Lakewood families with children from birth through elementary school. We help parents build lasting friendships while supporting our neighborhood schools through volunteerism, events, and fundraising.

Who can join?

Membership is open to families with children from birth through elementary school who live in or are connected to the Lakewood community.

Whether you're expecting your first child, new to the neighborhood, or have elementary-aged children, there's a place for you here.

Why should I join?

LECPTA offers opportunities to:

  • Meet other local parents
  • Build friendships for both you and your children
  • Join age-based playgroups
  • Attend family and adults-only events
  • Volunteer in meaningful ways
  • Support neighborhood schools
  • Become part of one of Lakewood's most welcoming communities

Who can become a member?

LECPTA is a women's membership organization for mothers and female caregivers of children from birth through elementary school in the Lakewood community.

While membership is reserved for women, we warmly welcome the involvement of the entire family. Many of our children's events, community activities, and fundraising initiatives include spouses, partners, and children, and we continue to create opportunities that bring Lakewood families together.

Are there opportunities for dads and partners to get involved?

Yes. While LECPTA membership is reserved for women, many of our family events welcome spouses and children. We also partner with organizations like Friends of Lakewood (FOL) on select events that bring the broader Lakewood community together.

Playgroups

What are playgroups?

Playgroups connect families with children of similar ages through regularly scheduled playdates, outings, and gatherings.

Many of our members say their playgroup became their closest circle of friends.

How are playgroups assigned?

Families are placed into GroupMe chats based primarily on their children's ages.

This allows children to grow up together while parents build friendships with families in similar stages of life.

How often do playgroups meet?

Each playgroup organizes its own schedule.

Many groups meet weekly or monthly depending on members' availability and interests. Don't be shy: volunteer to host a playgroup at your home!

Kids Events

What kinds of children's events do you host?

Throughout the year we host a variety of family-friendly activities, including:

  • Seasonal picnics
  • Arts & crafts
  • Community Heroes programs
  • Games and outdoor activities
  • Educational experiences
  • Holiday celebrations

Our goal is to create fun memories while helping families connect.

  • Special social gatherings

These events are a favorite way for parents to meet new friends and strengthen our community.

This adults-only themed evening features:

  • Dinner

Funds raised directly support our schools and LECPTA programming.

These events are available for purchase during the Auction Party and are a fun way to meet other members.

The Home Tour is one of Lakewood's most beloved traditions.

Guests tour beautifully designed homes throughout the neighborhood while raising money for local schools and showcasing our incredible community.

What is Founders Day Brunch?

Founders Day Brunch celebrates the volunteers and leaders who make LECPTA possible.

Members gather to recognize accomplishments from the past year, celebrate our history, and see the impact of the funds raised throughout the year.

Giving Back

How does LECPTA support local schools?

Fundraising through events like the Auction Party and Home Tour helps provide meaningful financial support to neighborhood schools and educational programs throughout the Lakewood community.

Every membership and every event contributes to that impact.

Do I have to volunteer?

Volunteer opportunities are available but flexible.

Whether you want to chair an event, serve on a committee, help for an hour, or simply attend activities, there are opportunities for every schedule and level of involvement.

What is the Sunshine Committee?

The Sunshine Committee supports members during life's important moments.

Whether celebrating a new baby, welcoming a family, recovering from illness, or offering encouragement during difficult times, the committee helps members feel cared for and connected.

Getting Involved

I'm new to Lakewood and don't know anyone. Is LECPTA a good place to start?

Absolutely.

Many members join because they're new to the neighborhood. Between playgroups, children's activities, adults-only events, and volunteer opportunities, LECPTA is one of the easiest ways to build lasting friendships in Lakewood.

How much time do I need to commit?

As much or as little as you'd like.

Some members attend a few events each year, while others become committee chairs or board members. Your membership can fit your family's schedule.
